Welcome to Cinergi - ASHP installers in Christchurch
Christchurch, located to the south of England, is a county filled with rich history and natural beauty. It is a wonderful place to visit for outdoor enthusiasts or anyone looking for a bit of tranquility.
Christchurch is also looking to preserve its natural wonders and is committed to a more environmentally friendly future. The County Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and has since been working towards its goal of being carbon neutral by 2050. The action plan has ongoing ideas to introduce more electric vehicles, improve travel, reduce energy consumption and improve waste management.
At Cinergi, we are supporting Christchurch on its journey to a greener future by providing efficient and sustainable energy solutions. Whether you’re looking for air source heat pumps, solar panels or electric vehicle charging stations, our team of experts will advise you on the most cost-effective and efficient way to get your energy. Ultimately, we want to help you reduce your environmental impact while enjoying clean energy in a more cost-effective way.
We are helping homeowners and local businesses in Christchurch and the surrounding areas.
Both types operate on the same principle, but as the name suggests, energy is sourced either from the air or ground. The pumps extract heat energy and use it to provide heating and hot water to homes and businesses. They can work with traditional radiators, underfloor heating and also provide cooling in a similar way to air conditioning (in certain circumstances).
That is very much the short story! For more detailed information on how air source heat pumps work, see our FAQs page. There are other types of heat pumps (such as water source heat pumps), but these are far less common.
What are the Benefits of Air Source Heat Pump Installation in Christchurch?
Reliable in Extreme Conditions
It’s a myth that heat pumps don’t work in the cold. Heat pumps reliably keep your home cosy and warm, even when it’s freezing outside. Our heat pumps perform efficiently even at temperatures as low as -20°C, making them ideal for any British weather.
Reduced Energy Bills and Energy Efficiency
Installing an air-source heat pump can reduce your heating bills. Typically, you see the biggest savings when you replace oil, LPG (commonly used in more rural areas of Christchurch), electric, or old/inefficient natural gas boilers. Heat pumps are 4 times more efficient than a modern gas boiler. The efficiency of these units makes them a cost-effective alternative to fuel combustion.
Reduced Carbon Emissions
Air-source heat pumps don’t burn fossil fuels; they use electricity. As a result, switching to a heat pump cuts the carbon your home generates, especially when you use a ‘green’ energy tariff. According to the Energy Saving Trust, switching from an older gas boiler to a heat pump in a typical UK home can reduce carbon emissions by about 2.9 tonnes of CO₂ per year, and switching from a modern, efficient gas boiler can still yield meaningful emissions reductions.
Minimal Maintenance and Peak Performance
A heat pump needs servicing every 12 months to ensure it runs correctly and maintains its guarantee. This process is simple, unlike the more complex service a gas or oil boiler requires. Our heat pumps all offer remote monitoring, so we can identify and sometimes resolve issues remotely before they become problems.
Easier To Install
Air-source heat pumps are easier to install than ground-source heat pumps and cause less disturbance to the home. Installation usually takes between 3 and 5 days, but this depends on factors such as the position and pipework required in your home, and any requirements for upgraded radiators.
Government Grants for Heat Pump Installation in Christchurch
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is available until April 2028. It provides grants of £7,500 to incentivise homeowners and small non-domestic property owners to replace fossil fuel heating with low-carbon alternatives, including heat pumps. The closing date for applications is 31 December 2027. See if you are eligible for a BUS grant here.

FAQs About Heat Pumps
How Do I Choose the Right Heat Pump for my Home?
While we encourage you to do your own research, we’ll advise what size heat pump would be best for your home and explain why. First, we can offer one or two options, along with estimated costs based on the information you provide us about your home and energy usage. Next, we provide a free survey visit that assesses your home’s heat loss so that we can calculate the size of heat pump you need. We’ll take into account your energy needs, insulation, and building materials and existing heat emitters like radiators and underfloor heating.
How Quickly Can You Install a Heat Pump?
Your air-source heat pump could be installed in as little as 3 weeks from the point of enquiry. During this time we will survey, design, and get the BUS grant approval (where eligible) before starting installation. It takes 3-5 days to install your heat pump after all the other steps are complete.
How Long Does a Heat Pump Last, and How Long Does the Warranty Cover It?
A well-maintained heat pump lasts 15 to 20 years or even longer. This outlasts a conventional boiler, making it a sound investment in the long run. Manufacturers usually provide a warranty on the main compressor unit that covers 5 to 7 years, but some now offer up to 10 years of cover. Always check the manufacturer’s specific terms and ensure you keep up with regular maintenance.
Do Heat Pumps Operate Effectively Throughout the Year?
Yes, they operate effectively year-round. Heat pumps extract heat from the air or ground even when the outside temperature drops. Modern units use technology (Smart Defrost Cycles, Inverter Technology) to maintain efficiency even in freezing conditions. They work best when set to provide steady background heating, rather than cycling on and off like a boiler.
Which Properties Do Heat Pumps not Suit?
Heat pumps are now suitable for almost all properties, provided you have the space for the outdoor unit, which can be placed up to 20m away, although they are most efficient when positioned directly on the external wall. The hot water cylinder can fit in an airing cupboard or even horizontally in the loft. Furthermore, homes in conservation areas or listed properties may require planning permission before you install a heat pump.
Why Do Some People Object to Heat Pumps?
Some people object to heat pumps because they can be more expensive to install than gas boilers. However, you do benefit from more efficiency with a heat pump. Heat pumps are up to 4 times more efficient than a modern gas boiler. It is essential to understand that the misconceptions some heat pumps have faced are primarily due to poor installations and a misunderstanding of how they operate compared to boilers. They must be correctly sized to achieve system balance and work using a low-flow temperature design, which ensures a consistent, warm environment. Treating a heat pump like a gas boiler, turning it on and off for quick, hot bursts, will prevent it from working effectively and shorten its lifespan.
Heat pumps have been a credible source of heating and hot water production for several years now, but have only recently gained popularity in the world of domestic heating. This is partly because of the continuous development in technology but also the rapid increase in energy costs and changes in government policy.
Ever-rising energy bills have led to an increase in fuel poverty, which the government has addressed by offering a number of grants, most recently the new Boiler upgrade scheme (BUS).
This improvement in technology and greater affordability means that air source heat pumps are now a viable choice for many more customers in Hampshire.

Choosing the right heat pump is a professional process guided by our expertise, beginning with a mandatory heat load calculation that assesses your home's energy needs, insulation, and climate factors to ensure correct sizing and efficiency. While homeowners can consider the pros and cons of system types, we’ll never install a requested unit. Instead, we’ll provide a professional recommendation based on the calculated needs, factoring in efficiency ratings, climate suitability, and if a ducted or ductless system is appropriate for your home's setup.
Installation times vary depending on the type of pump and the complexity of your property. From the point of enquiry, your air source heat pump could be installed in as little as 3 weeks. (subject to availability) We need time to survey, design, and get the BUS grant approved before starting installation (3-5 days). People wait until their gas boiler is completely dead in winter before considering replacements, and then want something installed the next day. You could get a gas boiler and be locked into fossil fuels for another decade, or you'd have to wait several weeks without heating or hot water for a heat pump.
