Frequently Asked Questions
What is MCS?
MCS stands for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. MCS is the governing body that oversees renewable energy installation standards in the UK. It’s a mark of quality and competency. In order for homeowners to access government grants such as the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), it’s essential that their heat pump installation has MCS certification.
What qualifications do I need to join Cinergi Certified?
You will need to demonstrate that you hold industry recognised qualifications in the plumbing and heating industry, such as NVQs or City & Guilds. Being registered as Gas Safe is an advantage.
Do I need to be Gas Safe registered to do this?
While it would be advantageous, no, you don’t need to be registered Gas Safe to install heat pumps. We can help you with decommissioning gas boilers if required.
Will I be trained on all types of heat pumps?
You'll receive in-depth training on heat pumps from our preferred manufacturers, Ariston and Vaillant, as we know the importance of mastering the systems we install. While we may occasionally work with other brands when a project requires it, heat pumps are complex technologies that must be carefully tailored to each property. Inadequate design or commissioning can lead to poor performance. That's why we focus on the systems we know best, so you can work with confidence and precision.
How long does it take to learn how to become a heat pump installer?
Generally, if you have some experience already, our half-day training session gives you all you need to get started with heat pump installations. From there, we’ll support you through your first projects, to make sure you’re confident and capable of delivering high-quality work. Our goal is to help you become self-sufficient as quickly as possible, while ensuring every system is installed to Cinergi’s high standards.
What’s covered in the training?
Our training sessions are carried out in person, in small groups at our training facility in Romsey. As well as the theoretical training on the principles of low temperature heating design, we’ll also pass on our practical, real-world knowledge which we’ve gained throughout our extensive experience of installing heat pumps. The training includes hands-on demonstrations followed by a test so we can identify if further support is required.
What areas do you cover?
At Cinergi Certified, we can offer support for heat pump installers across most of the South of the UK. From our base in Hampshire to the surrounding counties including Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucester, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Greater London, Surrey, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. However, if you are outside of this region, please do get in contact and we will consider your application.
